The Caoba Reserve Chocolate Experience starts with a fun off-road adventure. Ride in a 4×4 truck to the Masinga region. Upon arrival, you will walk approximately 25 to 30 minutes to reach the Cocoa Farm. Your experience will take you inside local crop production. Your guide will explain the varieties and characteristics followed by a tasting of the freshly picked chocolate pod, or cob. Prepare for an exotic flavor experience as you savor the taste of the juicy white pulp.
Then it’s time to learn how chocolate is made from the bean to bar in a traditional manual process. Learn how to roast the chocolate over an open flame, then grind it into a thick chocolate paste. Prepare for relaxation! Part of this paste will be used for a natural face mask and a soothing massage.
Now, you will switch locations for the final segment of your travel experience, the Caoba Biological Reserve. It was founded by German and Colombian Biologists in 2007. Their goal was to create a medicinal plant “bank” while contributing to local preservation. Your guide will take you through a labyrinth of approximately 250 medicinal plants and aquatic plants. Learn about local species such as Macaws, Morrocoyas, Turtles, Arapaimas (an Amazonian fish), and Babillas (small Crocodile).
The Caoba reserve was once part of an ancient indigenous settlement. As part of your nature experience you will walk the Ancient Roads of Stone, climb the terraces, and learn about the Tayrona’s house architecture.
Finally, you will finish up your day with a cool swim in a river with waterfalls – prepare for photo-ops!
