Whether you decide to travel into this unique Flora & fauna Sanctuary by the traditional Chiva or by private transportation the experience starts from the outskirts of Pereira in the heart of the coffee region. As you travel approximately 45 minutes alongside the Otún river you will marvel at the surrounding lush green mountains.
Once you arrive to Yarumo Blanco lodge (named after the large shiny silver tree with large leaves that cover the mountains) in the Sub Andean jungle of Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary of Flora & Fauna listen out for the impressive rumble of the Howler Monkeys that populate the area. Other unique fauna includes the Caucasian Turkey, the odd nocturnal fox and if you are really lucky a Tapir. Along with a sleuth of many birds, butterflies, and other interesting critters. There are a handful of short walks that can be done with a guide who will point out all the beauty that this sanctuary holds. The Frailes waterfall walk is one not to miss. Yarumo Blanco is a Community association where eco & sustainable tourism are at the top of the list. As you walk along these paths with your local guide you will also learn their contribution to the environment and to the community.
This can be done as a day trip from Pereira however an overnight in this simple but clean and comfortable accommodation is highly recommended purely for the wakeup call courtesy of the Howler monkey!
