Day 1 – Bogotá on Bike

Bogotá is an energetic city filled with contrasts of old and new. Up and coming and filled with innovative restaurants, cafes, street life and art, you’ll get a glimpse of it all! In this tour your bogotano host will take you to the most iconic sites of the city by bike. This tour will leave you with a fantastic cultural understanding of the capital city of Colombia as well as give you an opportunity to explore some of the urban art scene happening.

Day 2 – Farmers Market & Cooking Class

Today you will visit one of the most authentic food markets in the capital of Colombia. In its colorful and lively passages, you will find all the richness and agricultural diversity of Colombia, the most biodiverse country in the world. This is definitely the best place to understand the country’s culture, cuisine and traditions. You will see and taste all kinds of exotic and delicious fruits and vegetables from the many climates and regions of the country. Afterwards you will join your host for a cooking class at home using all of these fresh ingredients!

Day 3 – Colombian Amazon

After a flight and a boat ride down the Amazon river, settle in with some fresh juice and then dinner. Tonight you will be able to participate in a night walk in the jungle. This is the best time to see dozens of animals and insects that are never found during the day. Night hikes through the jungle often result in amazing looks at bizarre insects that look as if they come from another planet, night monkeys that leap through the canopy of the forest, and beautiful, brilliant frogs with shapes and sounds as bizarre as their natural histories!

Day 4 – Indigenous Village & Amacayacu

After breakfast, visit the village of Mocagua. Back to the lodge, lunch will be served, with local produce and traditional food. In the afternoon an exploration of the Reserve, with indigenous guides, crossing to the Matamata creek, at the edge of the Amacayacu National Park, observing the extraordinary diversity of plants and animals. Dinner at the lodge.

Day 5 – Macedonia, Pink Dolphins & Cooking

Breakfast at the lodge and departure to visit the artisan community of Macedonia. In this community, the majority of people are wood carvers and create fantastic redwood objects called “blood sticks”. This community also produces baskets and jewelry with seeds and feathers. Afterwards visit the natural canals of the Amazon River on the Peruvian coast to watch the pink dolphins in a fantastic place where females bring their new-born world. This evening you will have the opportunity to prepare a delicious recipe of fish!

Day 6 – Leticia & Mundo Amazonico

After an early morning boat ride back to Leticia today you will settle into your Bed and Breakfast and then you’ll be heading out on your last Amazon Excursion. The ecological park “Mundo Amazónico” is a tourist attraction for Amazon conservation and a place to explore the endemic plant collection, and fruits of the region. It is located just outside of Leticia.

Day 7 – Villa de Leyva

After arrival in the beautiful colonial town of Villa de Leyva you will depart on a walking tour. Our local expert will provide an educational walking tour focused on the history and significance of the town founded in 1572. Visit the historical and archaeological museums, wander the charming parks and plazas, and relax in this beautiful colonial town.

Day 8 – Hike to Iguaque

Today you will take on the challenging 9km (5.5m) hike through Iguaque National Park, the trail winds its way uphill through cloud forest and is not for the faint of heart. Wear practical boots, and be prepared for cold and rainy weather, as the temperature can drop fast.

Day 9 – Road to Barichara

Travel early this morning by car to the stunning town of Barichara. Relax and then take in a walking tour with your guide strolling the streets and taking in the architecture. Try some food typical of the region, maybe even the ‘hormigas culonas’. Option to hike to Guane.

Day 10 – Rafting in San Gil

Today you’ll be partaking in whitewater rafting in the adventure packed town of San Gil. A lunch and snacks will be prepared for you, so just be sure to pack your gear and excitement!

Day 11 – Street Food

Cartagena is one of the highlights of many people’s trips to Colombia and it’s easy to see why! The walled city is a maze of stunning colorful architecture, modern and traditional restaurants, cocktail bars, street vendors and more! A street food tour is one of the best ways to take it all in. You will have the opportunity to try a variety of classic Caribbean treats in the company of a local, bilingual guide who will let you know what you are about to eat and help you choose the best food based on your preferences!

Day 12 – Santa Marta

Four hours east of Cartagena is the oldest city in South America, Santa Marta. You’ll have the afternoon free to explore and have some down time in this laid back coastal city. You’ll be heading out early tomorrow morning for the sand dunes of La Guajira and the final few days of the adventure.

Day 13 – La Guajira: Cabo de la Vela

You will be headed first to Manaure through a deserted road in your 4 X 4 vehicle. In Manaure, Colombia’s largest salt complex, you will have a guided tour about the process of extracting salt and then pass by Uribia, indigenous capital of Colombia, where you will have a brief overview of the place before crossing the majestic desert to reach Cabo de la Vela. Here you will have lunch and a moment of rest and relaxation. Afterwards, visit Arco iris Beach, Pilón de Azúcar and finally the lighthouse where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Day 14 – Punta Gallinas

On the second day of the adventure you will leave at about 8:00 am. After breakfast, you will take a road surrounded by desert to Punta Gallinas. Pass by the Parque Eólico “Jepirachi” (Wind Park) to take pictures, before going through the deserted way bordering Bahia Honda and Bahía Hondita and finally reaching the enigmatic Punta Gallinas approximately at 2:00 pm for lunch. You can spend the afternoon resting at the lodging and enjoying the beauty of the landscape. Basic accommodation in beds or hammocks this evening.

Day 15 – Depart from Riohacha

Enjoy an early breakfast. After, you will visit the Taroa Dunes, a beautiful scenery of fine sand where you can practically slide right to the sea. You will then return to Riohacha. You will be taken directly to the airport for your departing flight to Bogotá.
