Overview

The famous wax palms, well known for being the national tree of Colombia, are close to Salento, a municipality that is embraced by the mist and decorates its streets with stands of homemade arepas, crafts from different places in Colombia and places specialized in showing you the varieties of coffee produced in Colombia, where you will also find the traditional jeep Willy, located in the main square each of these vehicles tells its own story about the coffee culture of Quindío.

 

A tour to open your senses and connect with the essence of the coffee culture. Leaving Salento by jeep for 25 minutes, you will find Cocora Valley, located in the Central Cordillera of the Andes, it is the gateway to Los Nevados National Park and home of the wax palms (Ceroxylon quindiuense), some over 60 meters high and old up to 200 years. This landscape, due to its impressive view, becomes the best invitation to inspire passionate mountain and hiking travelers. Likewise, it has international recognition, for its landscape and the natural diversity that it has in its surroundings.

This trek is ideal for you, it is important for you to be in the good physical condition and also that you practice sports regularly, you do not have to be an expert or be a great athlete. Your mental disposition to walk must be good, with the ability to adapt to periods of 5 - 6 hours of walking carrying a little weight, the distances of this route can be between 6 and 10 kilometers (≈4-6 miles) per day and flat surfaces with undulations and sometimes with mud or difficult paths. The elevation change can exceed 500 masl (≈1,600 ft), with an altitude higher than 2,000 masl (≈7,000 ft).
